Is a child of a Netherlands father and a non-Netherlands mother, who are not married, eligible for a Netherlands passport?
If a Dutch father of a child is not married to a non-Netherlands mother the child will  n o t  automatically obtain the Netherlands nationality at birth.

There are, however, two possibilities to have the child obtain the Netherlands nationality :

Before birth :
The father should sign an Act of Acknowledgment (‘Akte van Erkenning’) before the birth of the child. By doing this the child will obtain the the Netherlands nationality automatically at birth.

After birth :
The under-age child can only obtain the Netherlands nationality if the father has officially acknowledged the child and if the father can prove that he has cared for the child for an uninterrupted period of three years following his acknowledgment. If both conditions have been met, the father of the under-age child has to sign an option statement (‘optieverklaring’) after which the child obtains the Netherlands nationality.

For further information please contact the Netherlands Consulate-General in Sydney.
