Dutch-Australian Cultural Heritage
The Netherlands and Australia share more than 400 years of history. Dutch-Australian Shared Cultural Heritage dates back to the era of the Dutch East India Company ( Vereenigde Oostindische Compagnie or VOC) when Dutch seafarers Willem Janszoon and Dirk Hartog were the first Europeans to make a recorded landfall on Australian soil, on respectively the north coast (1606) and west coast (1616) of the Australian continent.
The Netherlands is a world leader in the field of Arts and Culture. Cultural expressions, such as music, dance and architecture, show the Netherlands in a unique way and can expand contacts and promote dialogue and mutual understanding.
