Medical Insurance

Medical care for visitors who are travelling to the Netherlands

There is an agreement between the "Ziekenfonds" in the Netherlands and Medicare in Australia which entitles you to free access to the public health care system for the duration of your stay.
You will need a certificate of eligibility from AGIS Zorgverzekeringen in the Netherlands.
You can apply for this certificate before you leave Australia or when you arrive in the Netherlands.

You will need to send the following information to AGIS:

• a copy of your passport with your Australian residence permit or if you are an Australian citizen a copy of your Australian passport;
• copy of your Medicare card;
• your home address in Australia;
• your temporary address in the Netherlands;
• your arrival and departure dates in/from the Netherlands.

You will then receive a certificate which you must take with you when visiting a doctor or hospital.
