Unrest in Papua New Guinea
Dutch citizens are advised to exercise a high degree of caution in all parts of Port Moresby, due to ongoing student protests and unrest. An updated travel advice will be published shortly by the 24/7 BZ Travel App.
On 8 June 2016, there was unrest in and around the University of PNG campus in Waigani related to ongoing student protests. Early information indicates that firearms have been used and there are an unconfirmed number of deaths and serious injuries. There are also reports of looting and unrest in other parts of Port Moresby. We advise Dutch citizens in Papua New Guinea to exercise a high degree of caution in all parts of Port Moresby, and to avoid protests and large crowds or public gatherings. Monitor local media for updates and follow the instructions of local authorities.
