Dutch passport applications in Australia as of 1 October 2015

As of 1 October 2015 the Consulate-General in Sydney is the only office in Australia to accept Dutch passport applications. The same applies for visa applications.

Process Changes

The Honorary Consuls in Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne and Perth will not close. However, they will not be able to accept passport and/or visa applications anymore from 1 October 2015. The same applies to the Embassy of the Netherlands in Canberra. In due course a new Honorary Consul is expected to be assigned for Brisbane.

As of 1 October 2015 the Dutch missions in Australia will offer the following consular services:

Declaration Netherlands nationality

One can apply by mail (post) with the Consulate-General in Sydney. Another option is to visit the Embassy or the office of a Honorary Consul.

Other consular declarations / statements

  • Declaration of Residence, can be applied for by mail directed to CG Sydney, Embassy or the office of a honorary consul.
  • Declaration of Life: can only be issued in person at the Embassy or Consulate in person.
  • If you need a Declaration of Life, you can check in advance with your pension provider in the Netherlands if a declaration issued by an Australian JP (Justice of the Peace) is also acceptable.
  • Declaration of Civil Status: can be applied for by mail directed to CG Sydney. Another option is to visit the Embassy or the office of a Honorary Consul.
  • Certified copy: only possible on location in person at one of the missions.

Legalisation of signature

Only for persons of Dutch nationality. Proof required.

Laissez-passer

This is a type of emergency passport, with a maximum validity of one year. A Laissez-passer is not accepted in all countries. I.e. Indonesia does not recognize this as a valid travel document.

 

Note: a Laissez-passer can only be provided if the applicant has no other valid travel document and must travel shortly. It can only be issued for a single journey to the Netherlands in case of an emergency. Proof of that emergency must be given by the applicant.

Option declaration

Application should be filed in person at one of the missions. Processing of the application is not on location but in the Netherlands. The final result will be communicated by CG Sydney.
